DR. GERRY CHU
Gerry was born and raised in Vancouver. After graduation with the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of British Columbia in 1976, he located in Salmon Arm to begin his career in dentistry. Gerry has been/is very involved in continuing dental education in study clubs and taking comprehensive programs in full mouth rehabilitation, fixed prosthodontics, creating restorative excellence, periodontics, orthodontics and implant dentistry.
He has been on the active dental staff at the Shuswap General Hospital since 1976. Gerry has served as President of the Salmon Arm Dental Society, President of the Thompson Okanagan Dental Society and as a Director of the Academy of General Dentistry.
He was awarded Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in New York in 1989 and through the Washington Academy of General Dentistry Mastertrack Program was awarded Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry in Boston in 2016.
In 2017, Gerry was awarded Fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an International Organization founded in 1936 with Fellows from 86 countries chosen for their advancement of the dental profession. Particularly special to Gerry was he was presented this award along with his daughter, Dr Kristy Chu at the same ceremony, the first known time in the history of the PFA that a father and daughter were inducted into the Academy at the same ceremony.
Gerry and his wife Rita, a 1975 UBC Dental Hygiene graduate, have raised two daughters, Carina and Kristy and now love being actively involved in Grandson Leo’s life. As a family they enjoy travelling, camping, hiking, reading, skiing, swimming, golf, tennis, cooking, eating and socializing.
Gerry now works part-time with his daughter Kristy, son-in-law Dr Brandon Schiffner and 23 plus year colleague/associate Dr Dil Chand.

DR. DIL CHAND
Dr. Dil Chand was born and raised in Kelowna. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the Okanagan University College (Kelowna) in 1999 and her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) at the University of British Columbia in 2003. After graduation, Dil moved to Salmon Arm to associate for Dr. Gerry Chu.
Dil is dedicated to lifelong learning and feels proud to be part of an office that provides the highest quality of dental care. She has an interest in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. Dil has completed advanced training in orthodontics through the Faculty for Orthdontic Research and Continuing Education (F.O.R.C.E.). She has been a member of several study clubs, including the Spear Education Study Club (2014-2023) and the F.O.R.C.E. Orthodontic Study Club from 2016 to present.
Dil has served as President of the Salmon Arm Dental Society, the President of the Thompson Okanagan Dental Society and as the Thompson Okanagan Board Director for the British Columbia Dental Association. She is also a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, along with Drs. Gerry, Kristy and Brandon. When Dil is not at the dental clinic, she enjoys gardening and being outside, spending time with her family on their organic dairy farm.

DR. KRISTY CHU
Dr. Kristy Chu was born and raised in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. She attended the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she graduated in 2006 with the Gold Medal with a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences.
Kristy then attended the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California, earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2010.
After graduation, Kristy returned to Salmon Arm, where she and her husband, Dr. Brandon Schiffner, eventually took over Chu Dental. She continues to practice alongside her father, Dr. Gerry Chu, and Dr. Dil Chand.
Kristy is passionate about continuing education and staying current with evidence-based dentistry to provide her patients with the highest standard of care. She has completed advanced training in orthodontics through the Faculty for Orthodontic Research and Continuing Education (F.O.R.C.E.) and in periodontal surgery—including implant surgery, soft tissue grafting, and guided bone regeneration—through Kois and Phelan Dental Seminars. She has also participated in Spears Study Clubs and The Dawson Academy, among others.
Committed to giving back to the profession, Kristy has served in various leadership roles, including President of the Thompson Okanagan Dental Society and as a board representative for the Thompson-Okanagan region on the British Columbia Dental Association for four years. In 2018, she was inducted into the honorary dental society, The Pierre Fauchard Academy, and in 2022, into the American College of Dentists. She currently serves as BC Section Chair for the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Kristy feels fortunate to work in an environment that emphasizes high ethical standards, teamwork, and patient-centred care. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, exploring food and wellness, attending live music events, and travelling both locally and internationally.

DR. BRANDON SCHIFFNER
Dr. Brandon Schiffner is a dedicated general dentist who has been serving the Salmon Arm community since 2012. With over 13 years of experience in comprehensive dental care, Dr. Schiffner is committed to providing exceptional, compassionate treatment for patients of all ages. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia in 2007, followed by his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of the Pacific San Francisco, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 2012, where he was inducted into the Tau Kappa Omega Honor Society for outstanding scholarship, service, and character.
At Chu Dental in Salmon Arm, Dr. Schiffner offers a full range of dental services, including preventative care, periodontics, pediatric dentistry, interceptive orthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, cosmetic dentistry, and both fixed and removable prosthodontics. He also maintains active hospital privileges at Shuswap General Hospital, where he has served for 13 years. Understanding that some patients require special accommodations, Dr. Schiffner helped establish Sedation Care Dentistry in Vernon, BC, an innovative practice that works alongside a medical anesthesiologist to provide dental care for highly vulnerable patients.
Dr. Schiffner is passionate about staying at the forefront of dental technology and techniques through extensive continuing education with renowned programs, including the Kois Center, Spear Education, and advanced endodontic training with Dr. Mark Oleson. His commitment to lifelong learning ensures that his patients benefit from the latest advancements in dental care. In 2018, he was awarded Fellowship in the prestigious Pierre Fauchard Academy, recognizing his outstanding professional achievement and dedication to the advancement of the profession.
Beyond clinical excellence, Dr. Schiffner believes strongly in giving back to his community. He has served as President of both the Salmon Arm Dental Society and the Thompson Okanagan Dental Society, as well as MLA Network Representative for the British Columbia Dental Association. For over four years, he has volunteered at the low-income dental clinic in Salmon Arm, providing emergency care for those in need. He is also deeply committed to youth development in the community, serving as a soccer coach since 2020 and a basketball coach since 2024.
Dr. Schiffner and his wife, Dr. Kristy Chu—also a dentist—are proud parents to their 11-year-old son Leo and their beloved labradoodle, Miso. When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Schiffner enjoys an active lifestyle that includes basketball, skiing, golf, running, weightlifting, yoga, hiking, and cycling. He is passionate about health, wellness, and longevity, incorporating practices like meditation, proper nutrition, and mindfulness into his daily life. The Schiffner family is proud to call Salmon Arm home, and Dr. Schiffner welcomes new patients and looks forward to helping you achieve optimal oral health in a comfortable, caring environment.
